i thought elliot did awesome tonite. both of his songs were great. i want him to win instead of chris. he deserves it.

I think it will be a shame if Paris leaves after certain others performed the way they did tonight...but if it means keeping Elliott another week, well I won't be bitter.

honestly i think she might be going this week. ima try to vote for her when i get off of work but i think "america" would pick her to go over lets say, katharine.

On merit alone . . . Katharine should be going home. Last week she got an apology from the judges on their critique of her performance. I don't think it was because she in fact did that great (I don't think she did)--rather because of how harsh they were, and the apology was sparked by the complaints people phoned in.

There will however be no apologies for the criticism of her first song last night. It was butched as badly as anything Kellie did before. The song was out of sync, and even when it was (in sync) sounded like a wounded duck. ^^' Second song was all right, but hardly the performance to assure a spot in the finals.

The further the competition goes, the less forgiving America will be.

Having said that . . . To vote out Katharine means there will only be one female contestant left (Paris). That might save her--and a guy will go instead. If so, then I'd predict Elliot to go--though he did well.

Chris had the best peformance by far with his first song, but his second was lackluster. If he does go on to win this year's Idol, I will be disappointed. Why? Because last year's runner up has a better voice than Chris and he didn't win. I had thought this year had the greatest talent, so for him t win, would be a let down, IMO.

Taylor somehow got away with a Beatles song (must be more Billboard charts than anyone imagined =P). He did well, but he's going to have to step it up if he wants a chance at the title--performances like he did in Stevie week and Queen are what he needs to go the distance.

And Paris... I have been a bit disappointed in her. The first two weeks of the top 12 (Stevie and 50s night) she was awesome. I'd really like to see her bring some of that back. If so, she could go from everyone's favorite target, to potential favorite. At least she sang her songs well--more than we can say for K.

Next week? Give the contestants more freedom in their songs! Geez... Handcuffing them week after week is a good reason why the performances havent been as good as they could. I thought at least with two songs they'd have more freedom this week. T_T

I highly, highly doubt Katharine will be going home tonight. This is just one community, and the little polls people put up here, are hardly representative and definitely nothing near a cross section of the the actual voting patterns. Katharine has a pretty strong fanbase, and that's what it all comes down to. Not what some pseudo LJ critics and their polls think.

Sure, her first song wasn't her greatest, but her second song was the best performance of the night. Paris didn't do so great at "Kiss". At all. And she was only mediocre at Mary J. Blige. Normally I love Chris, but I hated both of his song choices and felt he'd kinda taken two steps back. Elliott? I just never can pay attention when he's on. He's so friggin' boring. I use Elliott's singing times, and now Paris's to go to the bathroom, check voicemails, return phone calls, go get something to drink, chat on AIM about how bored I am waiting for Kat, Chris, or Taylor, etc. The only person who was consistently good in both of his performances was Taylor. They all botched a song except for him.

But Katharine came back in the second round, and she was hot, she sounded great, and what all of the Kat-haters fail to give regard to is that this is a talent competition.

Katharine's known for being the best vocalist in the competition.

Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, all the different magazines even have publicized that that's her forte.

You have to remember that just because you don't like a contestant, or a particular cross-section of just one journal community doesnt, doesn't mean there aren't still millions of fans out there voting for her who don't even use LJ or don't participate in polls.

That's why when everyone thought Bo was going to beat Carrie last year?

They were wrong.

And I won several bets.

xoxo

We shall see... Both Chris and Katharine have been in the bottom before, once each. Taylor is the sole contestant now that hasn't been there--though such a distinction didn't help Mandisa or Kellie, both of whom went the first time they were in the bottom.

I do think Katharine has a great voice, but then I think all of the contestants do. It's just a matter of how they use it.

Honestly I'm not a Katharine hater, btw. She was one of my favs to start. Just feel let down, I suppose.

I get that. "Against All Odds" wasn't her greatest. But what REALLY bothers me is that people don't even look past that to see how great her second performance was. Because it really was a fabulous performace.

They're all going to have a bad performance at some point. I was the hugest Carrie Underwood fan last year, and at times, I felt let down too. But she always managed to bring it back, and I really thought Katharine did that last night.

As for the whole bottom three thing - I never put much stock in that, because as you said, didn't help Mandisa or Kellie. Plus, Fantasia was in the bottom three and went on to win. So, never being in the bottom three isn't exactly a great indicator.

you're absolutely right, this is a talent competition, but week after week people seem to forget that and vote for the person that they like the best. for example, i dont think kellie or ace should've stayed longer than mandissa did, because quite frankly they couldnt sing half as well as she could. you yourself just said that you dont watch elliot and paris because you consider them "boring" and that has nothing to do with their singing because both of them can sing.

obviously you havent been present for a majority of the voting sessions that have transpired in this "little poll". while some weeks most people are way off, alot of people are consistently voting correctly each week. just like this week the majority of people have voted for paris to leave, and i dont think that they're that far off. you dont know who's gonna win as opposed to anyone else. and MOST people think chris is a better singer than katharine, so i dont know what you're talking about. besides you always have the option of not participating or sharing your opinion.

and even though you've won several bets i hardly doubt that every week you've been correct as to who is going to be voted off and who's gonna stay.

im not a katharine hater either i just think there are people who can sing better than she can.

I couldn't agree with you more. Kellie and Ace should have been long gone before Mandisa should have. I actually don't think Kellie should have even made it to the Top 24, I just never thought she was that good. And I think she got by on a mediocre voice and a really sad sob story. Becky O'Donohue should have lasted longer, and so should have Heather. Well, longer than Kellie, at least. Kellie got the sympathy and the Vote For The Worst vote, and that's what got her through so many rounds.

I may not sit there and watch them (Although I watched Paris's "Kiss"), but I can still hear them while doing various other things. And yeah, Paris has got a voice on her. She deserves to have made it this far. I was pulling for in the auditions. But these last few weeks, she just hasn't been bringing herself up to the raised bar. And Elliott? I've never liked him. Never liked his voice. I tolerate it. But he's boring, and I can't see how he's lasted this long because I really don't think he's anywhere near as talented as the others.

I had always predicted the Top Five would be

1. Katharine
2. Chris
3. Taylor
4. Paris
5. Mandisa

So no, I'm not always right. But just because I don't participate in these polls every week doesn't mean I don't watch them, or read each week. It was all of the Katharine hate that compelled me to finally at least point out that these polls aren't acts of God, and that not everyone on LJ is a qualified music critic, either.

And you have a right to your opinion, I was just pointing out that both Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly magazines have publicly pegged her as the best vocalist of the competition. Sure, they give Chris and Taylor better odds because they each are real gimmicky with the whole rock star and soul patrol thing. And Kat is just kind of her own thing. But two well respected entertainment magazines have said she's the best, vocally, and I agree.

I'm sure "MOST people" in your polls think Chris is a better singer. But I'm also pretty sure MOST people in the Taylor community think he's a better singer than Chris, and in the various Katharine communities, they all would probably laugh at your poll results and MOST of them would think she's the best singer.

Who cares what any of us think. We're just people on LJ. I highly doubt anyone voting in these polls works for Rolling Stone or at a major record label, so it doesn't really matter who on LJ thinks who is a better singer.

xoxo

ok, at first i just thought you were sticking up for "your idol", now i think you're just really dense. the show is called AMERICAN IDOL not rolling stone's idol. what you should be saying is who cares what rolling stone thinks considering they're not making up the majority of the vote. and people on lj are part of the american people (excluding those from other countries) so what they think does matter.

next time do us all a favor and think before you type. or dont type at all.

Elliott has a great voice, but he still doesn't wow me. Paris wowed me in the start of the competition, weeks and weeks and weeks ago, but she has lost her luster for me, and has even become somewhat annoying. Chris is...whatever. He's good, but, I'm not a big fan.

Katharine did poorly in the first song, of course--that's not debatable at all. However, she really sold the second song. I still think she has my favorite voice in the competition, and I would love to have her voice on a CD.

I know I shouldn't like Taylor, but I do. I laughed at/with him during his first song. It made me feel good.

From what i've heard Paris did pretty bad last nite. i think she keeps trying to sing songs that are either to old for her or too big for her. Its hard to sing a song by any current artist and most of them when trying to sing big songs get swallowed in them. i think Paris is also falling back on the fact that her singing voice is so different from her speaking voice, it almost seems like she tries to over sing the song, know what i mean? Or over compensate or something.

And i love Taylor too haha. He may not be the best whatever but he is damn entertaining to watch. Don't feel bad for liking him :)

I think the thing that is hurting Paris most now is song choice--not only what she chooses to sing, but the fact she hasn't had much of a selection to choose from (that really suits her). Picking "Kiss" by Prince, just because he's from Minnesota . . . That is the only mistake I think she made last night. She can sing, no doubt. She needs songs she can really get into and put on a show. That's the Paris I know and love. :)
